SETTING SPRAYS – THE HOW AND WHY OF OUR FAVOURITE SPRAYS.

Setting sprays, fixing sprays, matting sprays! With so many types it can be hard to know which bottle to reach for or what the difference even is.

Let us take you through our favourite sprays, why we love them and the best way to use each one to achieve flawless, long-lasting results every time.

Kryolan Fixing Spray.

Our cult-classic favourite fixing spray is the favourite for a reason! This specialist product creates an invisible protective film over your finished makeup, significantly increasing the lifespan of any makeup effect. Your makeup is protected from smudging, rubbing and transfer, this also means the vibrancy of your makeup will be protected against fading. This fixing spray doesn’t change the finish of the makeup underneath so can be used with almost anything.

The best part? Any makeup no matter the formula will be made resistant to cold water and significantly protected from deterioration due to sweat throughout the day.

For any body painters out there, this spray works particularly well with wet makeups like our Aquacolor and Supracolor ranges.

How to: This spray should be the very last step in your routine to avoid disturbing the protective layer once it’s on. Shake well before use then hold the can around 20-30cm away from the skin and spray in an even layer over the desired area. It will feel slightly tacky at first, but this will fade as the wet product evaporates. Be careful when applying to not get any product in the eyes or mouth! A good tip to avoid this is to take a deep breath beforehand then gently exhale as you spray the product with eyes closed.

As a note this spray may not be suitable for use with hair and eyelash extensions.

Recommended for: Special Occasion, Bridal, Body Painting, Cosplay, SFX and any occasion where you need your makeup to stand the test of time.

Dermacolor Fixing Spray

The Dermacolor Fixing Spray was designed to be part of the three-part camouflage system in the Dermacolor range. This spray creates a protective barrier over the makeup to prevent smudging and transfer of makeup, particularly in high friction areas like the hands and neck.

When used in combination with the rest of the Dermacolor system the products work together to create a durable makeup resistant to sweat, heat and physical activity as well as a waterproof finish even under total submersion.

This spray also has the added benefit of a sun protection filter of SPF 20 to shield the skin from the sun. This is particularly helpful for skin conditions vulnerable to sunlight such as vitiligo.

Be careful when applying to not get any product in the eyes or mouth! A good tip to avoid this is to take a deep breath beforehand then gently exhale as you spray the product with eyes closed.

Ultra Setting Vaporizer / Spray

The Ultra Setting Vaporizer is an innovative product that can be used to set any kind of foundation for reliable, smudge-proof finish that is highly resistant to moisture including sweat and humidity.

This is an extremely fine vapour spray that settles in a light layer on the skin to softly mattify for a matt to satin finish. This makes this spray particularly useful for on camera work. This spray contains less alcohol than the traditional Fixing Spray, but you should still avoid spraying into the eyes or mouth.

How To: Ensure your foundation is crease free before setting. If using a cream-based foundation make sure to lightly powder first, the spray will help melt away any powdery texture. Shake well then hold the can 20-30cm away from the face and spray evenly using up and down stroking motions. A good tip is to take a deep breath beforehand then gently exhale as you spray the product with eyes closed to prevent accidental inhalation.

Recommended for: Everyday use, Special Occasion, on camera work.

Matting Spray.

Kryolan Matting Spray is a fine mist spray to create a reliable mattifying finish on either foundation or bare skin. This mist contains ultra fine translucent powder to soak up any excess oils and eliminate shine.

This is an oily-skin makeup lovers best friend! It can be reapplied throughout the day as your skin gets shiny, preventing the cakey build-up of constantly re-touching with powders. The matt finish also controls excess shine on camera.

It’s essential to shake this product very well before using to ensure a good distribution of the powder through the product.

How to. Shake the bottle well before use. Hold the spray around 15-20cm away from the face and spray evenly using up and down stroking motions. A good tip is to take a deep breath beforehand then gently exhale as you spray the product with eyes closed to prevent accidental inhalation.

Recommended for: Everyday touch ups, Special Occasion, reduce shine for SFX makeups.

Kryolan Matting Spray is available in a 50mL pump bottle.

As a note sometimes residue can build up around the pump. If this happens simply run the pump under warm water and wipe away any residue with a paper towel. You can also use paper towel and a small amount of isopropyl alcohol.
